VIP HOMEOWNER ANSWER LIBRARY · GAS LINES

Can a plumber install or move a gas line for a stove, dryer, or grill?

Plain-English plumbing guidance for Oklahoma homeowners. A useful starting point, not a diagnosis for your home.

THE SHORT ANSWER

Qualified plumbing professionals can evaluate a gas connection for appliances such as a range, dryer or outdoor grill, but not every existing line is suitable for a new appliance. Pipe size, total appliance demand, routing, shutoffs and the manufacturer's connection instructions need to be checked before work begins. Never extend a gas line with unapproved parts or treat a flexible appliance connector as permanent piping. Ask for an onsite plan explaining the intended route, testing and any required utility coordination. If you smell gas at any time, leave the home immediately and call 911 and Oklahoma Natural Gas at 800-458-4251 from a safe location.
